Already tracking your gear elsewhere? Back in Pack imports from LighterPack and from its own export files. Both live under Utilities in Profile & Settings.
Import from XML
Profile → Import from XML.
This restores a Back in Pack export. Use it to recover a backup, move data between accounts, or hand a complete gear set-up to someone else.
The File Must Be a Zip
Tap Select ZIP File. The picker accepts .zip files only, not loose .xml files. The ZIP is the archive the app produced when you exported. See Sharing & Exporting Packs.
- Go to Profile → Import from XML.
- Tap Select ZIP File and choose your archive.
- Confirm at the prompt: "This will import gear data from the selected file. Existing items with the same name will not be overwritten. Continue?"
- Imported gear appears in your Gear Locker.
Trip Zips
Requires: Thru Hiker tier
The same picker handles trip exports. The app detects a trip ZIP automatically by looking inside it.
If you are not on Thru Hiker, the import stops with "Trip import requires a premium subscription". On Thru Hiker you get a confirmation prompt, then the trip is created.
On the Web
For importing, use the Android or iOS app. Browser support for choosing a file varies.
Import from Lighter Pack
Profile → Import from Lighter Pack.
- Go to Profile → Import from Lighter Pack.
- Paste your LighterPack URL into the field. It looks like
https://lighterpack.com/r/...... - If you have Extended attributes switched on, pick a Purchase Currency from the dropdown. The dropdown is hidden otherwise.
- Tap Import.
The import starts as soon as you tap Import.
What Comes Across
| Brought in | Notes |
|---|---|
| Item name | |
| Description | |
| Weight and unit | |
| Quantity | |
| Price | Recorded against the currency you chose |
| Gear type | LighterPack's star, worn and consumable flags map to Base, Worn and Consumed |
| Images | Pulled from the LighterPack item images |
It Creates a New Pack
The import does not just dump items into your locker. It creates a new pack named after your LighterPack list, with the description "Imported from Lighter Pack", and adds every item to it.
Items you already own are not duplicated. If a gear item with the same name already exists in your locker, the import reuses that item and adds it to the new pack with the right quantity.
On the Web
In a browser your data is fetched from LighterPack through a secure external proxy, and nothing is stored or copied in transit. The mobile app talks to LighterPack directly.
Back in Pack is not affiliated with LighterPack. The import tool is provided as-is, for moving your data across.
After Importing
Worth doing once the import finishes:
- Check the category assignments and move items where needed. See Pack Categories.
- Confirm weights and units came through as you expected.
- Open the new pack and adjust quantities. See Pack Contents.
Tip: If you track purchase prices, set your currencies up before you import from LighterPack. See Purchase Currencies. The importer stamps every price with the currency you pick on the import screen, and fixing that afterwards means editing each item.
