Your gear locker is your complete inventory: every item you own, want to buy, or have retired. In the app it is Gear, the tab with the shelves icon on the bottom navigation bar. Add an item once, then pull it into as many Packs as you like.
The Gear Screen
Tabs
Your gear is split by lifecycle state, one tab per state:
| Tab | Holds |
|---|---|
| Wishlist | Items you would like to buy |
| Active | Gear you own and use |
| Archived | Retired or replaced gear |
Wishlist only appears when Wish List is switched on in Appearance & Preferences, and it then sits first, to the left of Active. Either way the screen opens on Active.
Category Filter Chips
On the Active tab a scrolling row of filter chips sits above the list, one chip per pack category. Tap a chip to show only that category, and the chip you tapped slides to the centre of the row. On a tablet or desktop the chips wrap onto several lines instead of scrolling.
Show or hide this row with the Gear category selector preference ("If you have many gear items") in Appearance & Preferences.
The Wishlist and Archived tabs have no chip row. They list every category in turn, with a heading per category and the items beneath it.
What a List Row Shows
Each row shows:
- The item name
- Its description, if it has one
- A colour-coded weight badge on the right, tinted by gear type and shown in your preferred unit
- A price chip, on the Wishlist tab only, when the item has a purchase price and Purchase attributes is switched on
- A quantity chip reading
x 3when you own more than one
The row carries no gear type label. The badge colour tells you the type.
If Gear images is switched on, a thumbnail appears on the left. Tap the thumbnail to open the photo full screen.
Searching
Mobile only. Tap the search icon at the top of the screen and type. The list filters across your active gear as you type.
On a tablet or desktop, narrow the list with the category chips instead.
Adding and Managing Gear
- Add: tap the + button. See Gear Items for every field you can fill in.
- Edit: tap a row to open the gear item editor.
- Duplicate: long-press a row. You are asked "Do you want to duplicate the gear item?" before the copy is made.
- Delete: swipe a row left. There is no delete control inside the editor.
An item with a photo can only be duplicated or deleted while you are online.
Community Gear
Requires: any tier
Tap the globe-and-magnifying-glass icon at the top of the screen to open Community Gear, a shared catalogue of gear you can copy straight into your locker.
- Type into Search community gear …, or pick a Gear type or a Brand from the two dropdowns. Results appear once you search or filter.
- Results load 20 at a time and keep loading as you scroll.
- Each card shows the item photo, name, brand and gear type, and a weight badge in your units. A Discontinued badge marks products no longer made.
- Tap the download icon (Copy to locker) on a card.
- The Add to which category? dialog asks where it should land. Pick a category and confirm with Copy to locker.
The copy lands in your locker as an ordinary gear item that you can edit like any other.
Exporting Your Locker
Requires: Section Hiker+ tier. Export runs from the tablet and desktop layouts. Not available on web.
Tap the share icon at the top of the screen. You are asked "Do you want to export your gear locker. With many images, this can take 5 minutes", and confirming builds a zipped XML file and hands it to your device's share sheet. Gear images are included when Gear images is switched on.
On Day Hiker a help icon sits in place of the share icon and opens the online help.
Wider Screens
On a tablet or desktop the Gear screen splits in two. The list stays on the left, and tapping an item opens its editor in the right-hand pane rather than on a new screen. Saving returns the right pane to its empty state.
Tip: Archive rather than delete. Moving a replaced item to Archived keeps it out of your Active list and out of the category chips, but preserves its weight and purchase history for later comparison.
