Gear Items

Each piece of gear in your gear locker is a gear item. The screen that edits one is the Gear Item Editor. This page covers every field on it and how to manage an item once it exists.

Creating a Gear Item

Tap the + button on the Gear screen. Only the name is required, and it must be at least 3 characters ("Gear item must have a name of at least 3 characters.").

Gear Types and How Weight Is Counted

TypeMeaning
BaseGear stored in your pack
WornClothing and items carried on your body
ConsumedFood, water and fuel, used up as you walk

The app's totals follow from those three:

  • Total: Pack-weight = Base + Consumed. The app calls this the carried figure, and it is the weight on your back. Worn is excluded.
  • Total: Skin-out = Base + Worn + Consumed, everything you leave the trailhead with.

See Pack Analytics for where these appear.

Images

With Gear images switched on in Appearance & Preferences, an image picker sits at the top of the editor. Take a photo or choose one from your library and crop it, and that image becomes the item's thumbnail in every list it appears in. Tap a thumbnail to open the photo full screen.

Image controls only appear while you are online.

Extended Attributes

Switch on Extended attributes ("Quantities and links") in Appearance & Preferences to get two more fields:

FieldNotes
Quantity ownedA stepper, 1 to 1000. Shows as an x N chip in the locker when above 1
Link/Affiliate (url)A product or review URL. The button beside it opens the link

Purchase Attributes

Requires: Section Hiker+ tier

If you are looking for Warranty attributes, this is it under its current name.

Switch on Purchase attributes ("Prices, dates and receipts") in Appearance & Preferences to track what you paid and what the warranty covers:

FieldNotes
Purchase priceA stepper, whole numbers
Purchase CurrencyA per-item dropdown, so an item bought abroad keeps its own currency. Wishlist prices are converted to your default currency for display
Purchase dateTap Select date to pick one
Warranty period (months)A stepper, in months
Purchase receiptA second image picker, portrait crop. Tap an existing receipt to open it full size

Included in Packs

When an item is used in one or more packs, an Included in packs section appears at the bottom of the editor listing those packs by name. The list shows names only: no quantities, and nothing to tap. At most 10 are listed, with an "and N more" line beneath if there are others.

Publish to Community

Requires: the Publisher role

A cloud upload icon appears at the top of the editor for any saved item that has an image. It opens the Publish to community dialog, which asks for:

  • Brand (required)
  • Gear type (required)
  • Source URL (optional)

Confirm with Publish and the item joins the shared Community Gear catalogue.

Saving, Editing and Deleting

  • Save: tap the floating check button at the bottom right. It spins while saving and returns you to the list.
  • Edit: tap any item in the locker list.
  • Delete: swipe the item's row left in the locker list. There is no delete control inside the editor.
  • Duplicate: long-press the item's row in the locker list.

An item with a photo can only be deleted or duplicated while you are online.

Tip: Change an item's weight or type once and every pack that uses it updates. The locker holds the item itself; a pack holds only a quantity and an optional type override.
