Open a pack and you land on Pack Contents, the screen where you fill it with gear and watch the weight add up.
Two Tabs
The screen has two tabs and opens on Charts:
| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| Charts | The weight dashboard: hero figures, the category ring and the type breakdown. See Pack Analytics |
| List | The gear itself, grouped by category |
On a tablet or desktop there are no tabs. The charts sit permanently in the left pane and the list in the right.
Adding Gear
The add button sits at the bottom right and carries a checklist icon.
When Pack Systems Are Off
Tap it and the Select gear picker opens straight away.
When Pack Systems Are On
Requires: Thru Hiker tier plus the Pack systems preference
The button becomes a speed dial. Tap it and two options fan out:
- Systems opens the Select systems picker
- Gear Items opens the Select gear picker
A pack that is itself a system gets the plain picker, not the speed dial: systems cannot contain other systems.
Select Gear
The picker is always multi-select. A category chip row runs across the top, starting on your default category, and below it every active gear item in that category with a checkbox on the right.
- Pick a category chip.
- Tick any item to add it to the pack. Untick it to take it out.
- Each tap is saved immediately. There is no "add selected" step and nothing to confirm.
- Switch chips and keep going, then go back when you are done.
An item added this way comes in at your Quantity owned and its locker gear type. Adjust either afterwards in the item editor.
Only Active gear appears in the picker. Wishlist and archived items do not.
Select Systems
The picker lists your active systems, each with a checkbox. Ticking one links the system into this pack rather than copying its items in. Edit the system later and every pack linked to it changes too. Unticking unlinks it.
Reading the List Tab
Items are grouped under a heading per category. Each row shows the name, description, an x N quantity chip and a weight badge coloured by gear type. With Gear images on there is also a thumbnail; tap it to see the photo full size.
If Sort by weight is on in Appearance & Preferences, items within each category run heaviest first.
Linked systems get their own section, Included systems*, above your own items, one row per system with its base weight and item count. Gear that reaches the pack through a linked system carries a trailing asterisk on its name and cannot be edited or removed from here. Change it in the system itself.
Editing an Item in the Pack
Tap an item row and the Pack Contents Editor opens as a bottom sheet. It has two controls:
| Control | Does |
|---|---|
| Type | A segmented button, Base / Worn / Consumed, overriding the locker type for this pack only |
| Quantity in pack | A stepper, 1 to 1000 |
Tap the check button to save. There is no notes field and nothing else to set.
Items that arrive via a linked system, and every item in an archived pack, cannot be opened.
The Weight Figures
At the top of the Charts tab sit three hero cards:
| Card | Value |
|---|---|
| CARRIED | Base + Consumed, colour-coded against your body weight |
| BASE | Base weight only, no consumables and nothing worn |
| ITEMS | The number of items in the pack |
When you have entered a body weight in My Measurements, the CARRIED card's unit line reads "kg · 22% body".
Carried is Base plus Consumed. Worn is excluded. Worn weight appears further down the Charts tab, in the five-row breakdown card, alongside Total: Skin-out, which is Base + Worn + Consumed. See Pack Analytics for that card in full.
Removing Items
Swipe an item row left. It leaves this pack; the gear item stays in your locker. Swipe a row in the Included systems section to unlink that system.
Nothing can be removed from an archived pack, or from a linked system's contents.
Tip: Moving a jacket from Base to Worn drops both your base weight and your carried figure, because carried is Base + Consumed. It does not change Total: Skin-out, which is the honest number for what you actually lift at the trailhead. Use the override to model it, not to flatter it.
