Pack Analytics

Back in Pack has no separate analytics screen. The weight breakdown is the Charts tab of Pack Contents, and it is the tab a pack opens on. On a tablet or desktop the charts hold the left pane permanently, with the contents list beside them.

The tab shows nothing but "No items in the pack" until the pack has something in it.

The Hero Bar

Three cards across the top:

CardValue
CARRIEDBase + Consumed. Its colour shifts with your pack-to-body-weight ratio
BASEBase weight alone
ITEMSThe item count, or ITEM when there is only one

With a body weight set in My Measurements, the CARRIED card's unit line becomes "kg · 22% body".

The Category Ring

Below the hero bar, a ring chart shows how weight splits across your categories. The total pack weight sits in the middle of the ring, with its unit beneath it.

Percentages sit in the legend below the ring rather than on the ring itself. The legend lists every category with:

  • A colour swatch matching its ring segment
  • The category name
  • Its share of the total, as a percentage pill
  • Its weight

On a tablet or desktop, tapping a legend row filters the contents list beside it to that category.

The Type Breakdown

A separate card lower down holds five summary rows rather than a second chart.

RowWhat it is
BaseTotal weight of all Base items
ConsumedTotal weight of all Consumed items
Total: Pack-weightBase + Consumed. Becomes Total: Pack-weight (22%) once a body weight is set
WornTotal weight of all Worn items
Total: Skin-outBase + Worn + Consumed

The card has no row called "Carried", no plain "Total Weight" row and no item count. For the item count, read the ITEMS hero card.

On a tablet or desktop, tapping Base, Consumed or Worn filters the contents list beside it to that gear type, and tapping Total: Skin-out puts the list back to everything.

Pack Weight Ratio

Tap the Total: Pack-weight row and a Pack Weight Ratio sheet opens, comparing your pack against your body weight. The sheet needs a body weight in My Measurements. Without one, tapping the row does nothing.

The sheet shows your Pack weight, your Body weight and the Pack % Body Weight, then the four bands with the colour that matches your figure:

BandPack as % of body weight
Lightweight load0-15%
Moderate load16-25%
Heavy load26-35%
Expedition load>36%

A More button at the foot of the sheet opens the pack-weight article on the website.

Using the Charts to Cut Weight

  1. Start with the ring. If one category owns 40% of the total, that is where the grams are, whatever your instinct says.
  2. Read the percentage, not an absolute. The app judges your load against your body weight, not against a fixed target. Getting from Heavy into Moderate is a more useful goal than chasing somebody else's number.
  3. Separate Base from Consumed. Base is what you can actually buy your way out of. Consumed is food, water and fuel, and is better solved by planning resupply and water carries than by new gear.
  4. Check Total: Skin-out. Reclassifying a jacket as Worn flatters your base weight and your carried figure but changes nothing you have to lift. Skin-out is the honest number.
  5. Sort by weight. Switching on Sort by weight in Appearance & Preferences puts the heaviest item at the top of each category on the List tab.

Tip: The four bands are the app's own guidance, and they scale with you. A 12 kg pack is a Moderate load for an 80 kg hiker and a Heavy one at 45 kg, which is why the app quotes a percentage rather than a target in kilograms.
