Signing In

Back in Pack needs an account so your gear, packs and trips sync across your devices. Sign in with Apple or Google, or with an existing email account.

Sign-in Methods

The sign-in screen leads with two buttons, Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google. Email sign-in sits below them in the footer.

Apple sign-in is offered on Android and on the web as well as on Apple devices. The same Apple ID resolves to the same Back in Pack account from a Mac, an iPad or an Android phone.

Apple

  1. Tap Sign in with Apple.
  2. Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your Apple ID password.
  3. Choose whether to share or hide your email address.

Google

  1. Tap Sign in with Google.
  2. Pick your Google account.
  3. You are signed in.

Email

Email sign-in lives in a collapsed card in the footer, below the two buttons, labelled Login with email. Tap it to expand.

Inside the card you get:

  1. The Email address and Password fields, and a Login button.
  2. A Forgot password button, shown when you are in sign-in mode.
  3. A Create account button at the bottom, which switches the form to registration. It then reads Back to sign in to switch back.

To register a new email account, expand the card and press Create account.

Below the card is the terms disclaimer and a Review T&Cs button that opens the policy on the website.

Verifying Your Email Address

New email accounts have to be verified before you can get in. Until you are, the app shows a verification screen reading "Your email address needs to be verified. Please check your email (inbox or junk folder) and follow the authentication link."

Three buttons:

Privacy and Terms

Signing in means accepting the terms, conditions and privacy policy. Review them from the Review T&Cs button on the sign-in screen, or on the Back in Pack website. Once you have accepted the community terms, the date shows on your identity card in Profile & Account.

Finding Your Way Around

The bottom navigation bar has five tabs, but Trips only appears on Thru Hiker. Day Hiker and Section Hiker see four.

If you are looking for the Locker, it is the Gear tab. The Community is the Discuss tab.

On a tablet or desktop the same destinations appear as a navigation rail down the side.

Signing Out

Open the Profile tab and tap the logout icon in the top right of the screen. The screen is titled Profile & Settings. Your data stays in the cloud.

Trouble Signing In

  • Forgot your password? Expand the Login with email card and use Forgot password.
  • No account found? Use the same method you registered with. A Google sign-up will not be found by the email form.
  • Nothing happens after verifying? Press I've verified my email again to re-check.
  • Too many attempts? Access is temporarily disabled after repeated failures. Wait and try again.

Tip: Sign in with Apple or Google if you are starting fresh. Both carry your identity cleanly across every device you use, and neither needs a verification round trip.
